Here’s how you can get involved

Whether you have made ExtraCare your home or are based elsewhere, there are lots of ways you can come together with your community to raise funds to help create better lives for older people.

1. Care for cake

Coming together for a cuppa and cake can be an easy and fun way to raise vital funds to support your friends and neighbours in ExtraCare.

Whether you’re an expert baker, enthusiastic amateur or a complete disaster, you can hold a really fun event to support our shared mission to provide care and wellbeing.

Find out more here!

2. Test your brain

This selection of quizzes can be a fun addition to your fundraising event – or sell them to family and friends for £1 for a bit of fun!

Feeling cheeky? For an extra £1, you could sell them the answers too!

Download the quizzes and answers here!

Are you a budding quizmaster? We’d love to grow our Quiz Library, so if you have a fun headscratcher you think would be a great addition, why not share them with us at fundraising@extracare.org.uk

3. Charity car wash

A charity car wash is a great way for you and your friends to have some fun and raise money for ExtraCare! This is a great team activity – perfect for families, schools and scout groups. Don’t forget that children need to be supervised at all times.

Things to remember:

Location

You’ll not only need somewhere safe and easy to get to (expect a queue!) but you’ll also need running water. A scout hut or school is perfect for this – but don’t forget to ask permission!

What you’ll need

All the things you need to wash cars – like buckets, sponges, a hosepipe. You’ll also need a way to keep money safe like a money belt or cash tin.

Don’t forget drinking water and snacks – it’s thirsty work!

Advertising

You’ve got a great fundraiser on your hands, but you can only raise money if people know about it! Think about who you want to tell about it and how they might hear.

Creating a poster is a great idea – and putting them up in prominent places like nearby supermarkets or coffee shops can be really effective. Make sure you get permission first though!

Sharing through social media can be a fast way to get the word out. Don’t forget to tell your friends too. If you are fundraising with a school or scout group (or using their grounds), make sure you ask them to share the information.

4. Wear green day

If you’re looking for a simple way for your school or workplace to get involved in fundraising, it doesn’t come simpler than this!

Ask everyone to pay a small amount (£1-2) to take part, and think about how you’ll collect it. If you’re a small group or team you can have an honesty box, or if you have time walk around and collect it.

If you’re a school you may already have a system for collecting money – like Parent Pay. Contact the Fundraising team to discuss the best way to do this.

5. Join our Collection Tin programme

Look after the pennies for us!

We’re looking for some amazing people who can work with their local community to raise money from shops, cafes and pubs in their local area.

6. Take on a challenge

Are you an adrenaline junkie or are you looking to push yourself to do something new or scary? You’ve come to the right place!

7. Bag packing and public collections

What we’re doing

We’re taking passionate teams of volunteers – armed with smiles and buckets – to local supermarkets and public sites. We offer the public the opportunity to donate small amounts to ExtraCare.

How it works: Bag packing

This is a service we offer in supermarkets. We offer people help to pack their shopping at checkouts in exchange for donations.

Some people are grateful for the help, but others prefer to do it themselves. Either way, they are often generous in their donations.

We do this activity around Christmas, as this is when supermarkets are the busiest.
Our teams are often 5-6 strong, and are managed by a lead volunteer who is responsible for making sure everything runs smoothly.

How it works: Public collections

Public collections are another easy way to raise money very quickly. Our team of volunteers stand in prominent positions to offer people the opportunity to donate money to us.

Our teams differ in size depending on where we’re collecting, and are managed by a lead volunteer who is responsible for making sure everything runs smoothly.

We need you!

Volunteer leader

Are you an organised and responsible person who loves working with people? We need you to lead our sessions and make sure everything runs smoothly on the day.

You’ll be the main on-the-day contact for the site and liaison point for the Fundraising team – responsible for managing the volunteers and making sure donations are kept safe. You can see the role description here or get in touch with the Fundraising team.

Collector and bag packer

Can you donate 2-3 hours to help make lives better for older people? Whether you’re an individual or a group of friends or colleagues, get in touch with the Fundraising team to find out about current opportunities or register your interest for the future.
