At ExtraCare we assist our residents to maximise their income through identifying benefits and assistance they may be missing out on.

The following costs associated with Village residency may be eligible for support through the Welfare Benefits System:

Our Welfare Benefits Advisors can advise, in confidence, about a resident’s entitlements. In some rare cases, levels of benefit entitlement may be insufficient, but our Welfare Benefits Team is able to complete an affordability assessment with you to offer guidance and support.

In 2024/2025 our advisors saved residents over £5.3M and supported 70% of residents to receive what they are entitled to.

Just 20% of our residents are in receipt of care, however ExtraCare takes pride in providing exceptional services for those who need it.

This includes:

Dementia care

We have a number of social rented homes available across our locations, for which applicants must be over 55 years old.

At Hughenden Gardens these can be applied for via Buckinghamshire Council – Applicants who have (or require) an assessed care need, should contact Buckinghamshire Council Adult Social Care Team, who will assist in making an application. Ring 01296 383204. Applicants must have a local connection to Buckinghamshire.

Moving to Hughenden Gardens marked the beginning of a new chapter, not just for Pam, but for her whole family. Joined by daughter Rosie and granddaughter Rebecca, three generations share how making the decision together transformed Pam’s life and brought peace of mind to every generation.

Brian’s Story

For Hughenden Gardens residents Brian and Beryl, hearing that Brian would never walk again last Christmas meant a heart-breaking festive season. Now, six months later and at nearly 89 years old, Brian is back in the gym and walking, thanks to Fitness Instructor Ty. Here, the three share Brian’s remarkable turnaround and discuss how fitness and commitment have helped him get back on his feet.

David, June & Callum – Hughenden Gardens Village

David and June moved into an ExtraCare Village in 2024. Their grandson Callum works in the bistro, which means they often get to spend quality time together around the village. Here, they share their thoughts on living and working side by side, and how David, as an amputee, has made village life work for him.

Nan has a social schedule which is as busy as mine, or busier and I love that for her! It’s so reassuring to see her enjoying herself and surrounded by great people. I don’t have to be in “bodyguard mode” anymore, and that’s a big relief.

Our experience has been so much better than we anticipated, it’s difficult to put into words the sense of freedom and liberation, there’s just something about it that frees you up. What did you do on New Years Eve? We danced the night away to Showaddywaddy, how’s that for living?

Moving here has been so much better than my previous flat, I simply didn’t have the community there. Hughenden Gardens itself is a nice building to live in, and relatively new, when I first walked in I thought it looked like a hotel it was rather nice. Having regular contact with the group we have here is also deeply appreciated. We all enjoy a chat, and spending time together.
