Local supporters brave the coals for charity fire walk
37 thrill-seekers swapped their typical Thursday evening for a barefoot Fire Walk, stepping across hot coals on 21st May to raise vital funds for retirement living charity ExtraCare.
As the UK’s ageing population grows so does the need for integrated retirement communities. ExtraCare helps people in later life live well for longer by creating vibrant locations, with subsidised access to care and wellbeing services so residents can feel safe, connected and independent. For those who need extra support, subsidised dementia support and end-of-life care is also available.
The fundraising Fire Walk aimed to raise funds to support the work of the charity.

Mark Clements, Fundraising Manager for ExtraCare, said: “We’re incredibly proud of and grateful for everyone who took part in our first ever Fire Walk. It was inspiring to see the courage, community spirit, determination, and support for ExtraCare shown by our staff, volunteers, residents and local businesses. To date the event has raised over £5500 and every step across the coals helps us continue creating better lives for older people!”
Money raised through the Fire Walk will help fund ExtraCare’s support services across its 18 retirement living locations in England helping those in later life live with dignity, independence and improved wellbeing.
