When a loved one passes away, many people choose to raise money for a charity which meant a lot to them in life, or that benefited them in their later years. This can be in at their funeral in lieu of flowers, or on a wider scale.
We understand that if you are recently bereaved, you may be dealing with a lot. As well as a deep sense of grief, you may be responsible for organising the funeral and liaising with your loved one’s family and friends. We want to make it as easy as possible to do support ExtraCare in your loved one’s memory.
This web page aims to give you a simple way to support us, but we understand if you prefer the more personal touch. Contact us at fundraising@extracare.org.uk and we’ll arrange to chat to you about how we can support you at this time.
The most popular way of doing this is through a collection at the funeral, and many people choose to bring cash or a cheque just in case. However not everyone thinks of this, and it can be a good idea to let people know in advance along with the wider details of the funeral.
To give us the money, you can collect them yourself and bring the money to one of our villages or donate it online. Some funeral directors also offer this service so it’s one aspect of the funeral you don’t have to worry about. Ask them if they can help you with this; and we will liaise directly with them then write to you once we’ve received the donations.
Many people choose to give online – especially if they cannot make the funeral or tend not to use cash.
We use JustGiving to process online donations, which can be made directly to us HERE. Here you can choose to donate directly to us, or to set up a donations page in your loved one’s memory.
You may have used JustGiving before, to support a friend or family member in a charity event or run. These pages work in the same way but can be tailored to celebrate your loved one; so is a tasteful and appropriate memorial.
Your money will be sent to us within a couple of weeks and will be processed automatically, including GiftAid claims.
Losing a loved one is very sad. It is important to give yourself time to grieve and get support is you need it. But there may come a time when you choose to celebrate your loved one and remember them at their best.
It is common for friends and family to come together to hold a fundraising event. If you choose to do this, you can check out our Fundraising Resources or get in touch at fundraising@extracare.org.uk.
You may wish for donations raised in this way for a specific purpose, such as a particular service or location. We can usually facilitate this for you, but please reach out to us at fundraising@extracare.org.uk to speak to us about it.
You can also choose to give these donations without a restriction. This means we will be able to use your generous gifts to benefit those who are most in need at any point.
