Retirement villages in the UK

ExtraCare retirement villages offer more than just a new place to live – they provide a fresh start and a vibrant community for over 55s. Our charitable trust is dedicated to creating inspirational retirement villages that empower healthy, active, and independent later living. We believe that health, age or financial means should be no barrier to an enhanced quality of life.

At our retirement villages, we prioritise supported independence with residents enjoying social and leisure opportunities. If care is needed residents have the option of receiving support in the privacy of their own home.

Our village homes are built and equipped to the highest standards and are protected with safety features such as closed-circuit security cameras and emergency pull cords in every room. Additionally, residents have access to a superb variety of facilities, including libraries, IT facilities, bistros, bars, gyms, beauty salons, and more.

Our retirement communities are diverse and fun, with exciting activities and opportunities to engage with people of all generations. Each village centre serves as a social hub for residents and local communities, welcoming family, visitors, and friends.

With onsite landscaped gardens to relax in, beauty salons to be pampered in, or a bistro to socialise in, ExtraCare retirement villages are the perfect place to embrace a new chapter full of promise and possibility.

Pat & Bill – Sunley Court

Siblings Pat and Bill, who both live at Sunley Court, have found real comfort in being just across the hall from one another. Here they share what it’s meant to reunite in later life, how they support each other every day, and what they believe their parents would think about them living together again.

Candace & Mildred – Hughenden Gardens

Nan has a social schedule which is as busy as mine, or busier and I love that for her! It’s so reassuring to see her enjoying herself and surrounded by great people. I don’t have to be in “bodyguard mode” anymore, and that’s a big relief.

John – Wixams

For someone living with dementia, being here is so much better than trying to manage out in the wider community. The care team know me and understand what I need, and they offer support in a respectful, low-key way.

Margaret – St Oswald’s Village

At this stage, you don’t expect things to get better—you prepare for the decline. But it feels like someone has turned the sunshine back on for me. It’s absolutely amazing.

Ricky – St Oswalds

I arrived at my home in St Oswald’s Village in Gloucester, a shadow of a man…Over the next two and a half years through the care, attention and genuine support given to me by ExtraCare I was turned from a shell of a man into the example I am today. Moving into St Oswald’s has transformed my life.

Jim – Hughenden Gardens Village

Our experience has been so much better than we anticipated, it’s difficult to put into words the sense of freedom and liberation, there’s just something about it that frees you up. What did you do on New Years Eve? We danced the night away to Showaddywaddy, how’s that for living?
