How we raise and spend money
1. How we raise and spend money
Our approach brings together homes, lifestyle and care in a way that supports both individual wellbeing and long-term sustainability. By creating environments where people want to live, we maintain strong demand and vibrant communities.
Our lease buyback model is an important part of this approach. By retaining control of properties and limiting long periods of vacancy, we can protect the continuity and strength of our communities, ensuring they remain active, inclusive and sustainable over time.
Our Charity is supported by the generosity of individuals and organisations who contribute their time, resources and financial support to help us deliver services that enhance the lives of older people. We are grateful for the wide range of support we receive, which enables us to provide vital care, wellbeing and community services.
Income from fundraising is generated through a range of sources, including our wholly owned subsidiary, ExtraCare Retail Limited, which operates our charity shops, alongside support from trusts, foundations, legacies, corporate partners and community-based fundraising initiatives.

2. Rewarding our people
We offer competitive pay and benefits, including payment of the real living wage as a minimum for all Trust colleagues. Our wider benefits package supports well-being and long-term retention, with enhancements to pension provisions, annual leave and family friendly policies.
We regularly review our approach to reward, development and support to ensure it reflects the needs of our workforce and supports a positive working environment. This includes ongoing investment and training and development, enabling colleagues to grow in their roles and contribute towards the success of the charity.
3. Procurement
We remain committed to achieving value for money through a disciplined and structured approach to procurement. Our Procurement Category Management Framework supports effective sourcing, contract management and ongoing review, ensuring that services are delivered efficiently and risks are appropriately managed.
Through ongoing engagement with suppliers, we aim to strengthen the integration of responsible practices across our supply chain. This approach supports both value for money and the long-term sustainability of our operations, while reinforcing our commitment to delivering positive outcomes for residents and stakeholders.
4. Investment of surplus
We are a registered charity and as such must carry out charitable purposes for the public benefit.
Supporting our communities sits at the heart of our charitable purpose. Our model enables us to reinvest surpluses into services that enhance the lives of residents. This includes funding care, wellbeing and community initiatives that might not otherwise be available, ensuring that support remains accessible and inclusive.
This work is made possible through the collective contribution of our residents, colleagues, volunteers, donors and partners. Their commitment and support help to strengthen our communities, creating environments where people feel connected, valued and able to live well.
As a charitable organisation, we are focused on ensuring that resources are used effectively to deliver meaningful outcomes. All surpluses are reinvested into our communities, supporting ongoing improvements and enabling us to respond to the changing needs of older people.
