On Wednesday 21st October ExtraCare welcomed over 100 attendees including residents, colleagues and trustees to Edgbaston Cricket Ground for ExtraCare’s first Resident Conference. The theme for the conference centred on creating balanced and sustainable communities.
The day brought together expert insight, open conversation and plenty of opportunities for residents to have their say. The programme included three keynote speakers. Michael Voges Chief Executive of ARCO, shared his insights on the wider Integrated Retirement Community sector. Michael Spellman, ExtraCare’s Wellbeing, Research and Innovation Lead explored what makes an Integrated Retirement Community an IRC. Beyond labels and buildings, Michael discussed how housing, wellbeing, community, support and care work together in practice. Keir Pedley, ExtraCare Location Manager at Yates Court rounded up the keynote speakers and tackled the question, “What does care look like in an IRC?”
The event also featured an address from ExtraCare’s new CEO Matt Rickards; Q&A sessions; a revitalising session; judo and wellbeing stands, and a ‘What One Thing’ exercise, which invited residents to share their own ideas.
Chair of the Resident Forum, Ray Boreham addressed the conference. He commented: “This is something we’ve been hoping for and working on for a while. I wondered if ExtraCare would want to do this and I’m so glad they did. Thank you for doing this.”
CEO, Matt Rickards added: “What a brilliant day looking at our balanced and sustainable communities. We’ve had great resident feedback, I’m really looking forward to seeing where we can take things moving forward.”
