ExtraCare celebrates IiV accreditation

ExtraCare are delighted to achieve the Investing in Volunteers (IiV) standard. The award highlights how much the Charity values volunteers and demonstrates a commitment to volunteering within the organisation. An assessor found that ExtraCare have proven that their volunteer management policies and procedures meet nationally recognised standards.

Volunteering is part of the ethos of ExtraCare’s villages and schemes. Volunteers support the Charity and its residents in a variety of ways including in hospitality, administration, wellbeing, health, entertainment, skills learning, activities and charity shops. There are over 50 volunteer roles and new roles are regularly created.

The IiV report featured contributions from volunteers on their feelings on working with the Charity.

“It’s a lovely environment to volunteer in…It’s a big community atmosphere”,

“I enjoy the camaraderie. Everyone envelopes you. I came here as a wreck – I had lost all my family. They have been so supportive – they have been a rock.”

The IiV standard will help the Charity to continue to improve the way it celebrates and engages with volunteers. The award has been a collective effort with retail operations, regional managers, shop managers, locations, and volunteers all assisting with the accreditation. The teams supported the process and fed into interviews and open discussions about their experiences.

Charity Volunteer Lead, Lou Jevons commented: “As a team, we’re really proud to have earned the Investing in Volunteers (IiV) accreditation! This achievement is a true reflection of our commitment to building a positive and supportive environment for our volunteers. It’s not just about the hard work we’ve put in—it’s about recognising and empowering the incredible volunteers who make everything we do possible. We couldn’t have done it without them!”

Managing Director of Retail, Cherry Whiteside commented: “I am really delighted that ExtraCare have achieved this accreditation, this supports what I already know, that our retail shops are a wonderful place to volunteer and become part of a team.”

Volunteering is at the heart of ExtraCare with the Charity relying on the support of over 1700 valued volunteers from the Board of Trustees to those who give their time and skills in villages, schemes and charity shops. Volunteers play a key part in helping drive ExtraCare’s vision of creating better lives for older people.
