ExtraCare and Citizen Join Forces this Christmas with Food Bank Donations
The ExtraCare Charitable Trust has worked alongside Citizen this festive season to collect food bank donations in support of people who may have experienced homelessness in Coventry.
Citizen is a large social housing provider and community-focused landlord based in the West Midlands. Citizen has over 50 supported housing schemes across the West Midlands. ExtraCare as a registered UK charity aims to create better lives for older people by developing and running retirement villages and housing schemes across the Midlands and further south.
This year’s festive donations supported residents at Citizen’s supported accommodation, The Gateway, in Coventry. The location offers accommodation for families and secure homes for people who need extra help to live independently.
Colleagues and partners at ExtraCare were invited to donate much-needed essentials, including toiletries, tinned goods, cereal, long-life milk and sauces. The collection ran up to 19 December, with colleagues coming together to donate what they could to help those most in need during the festive period.
Angela Carpenter, Executive Director of Governance and Compliance for ExtraCare commented:
“ExtraCare partnering with Citizen on this project has been very rewarding. We have been overwhelmed by the kind donations from staff and our Earlsdon Park village and Humber Court residents. It has been a great example of our shared commitment to giving back and making a positive difference in our local community.”
Peter Gill, Director of Housing Care and Support at Citizen, said: “Thank you so much to ExtraCare for the food donation – we are so grateful for the generous gift and our customers will really appreciate it.
“Customers living at Gateway have previously found themselves homeless and this food will help to give an extra boost over the festive season at a time when there is a focus on happy times and celebrations.
“We would like to wish everyone at ExtraCare and our customers a Merry Christmas!”
ExtraCare would like to thank all of our colleagues who contributed so generously, showing the true spirit of the season by coming together to support those who need it.
