Birmingham Pride unites ExtraCare generations
Honouring pride in every generation ExtraCare joined a vibrant Birmingham Pride parade at the weekend with a double decker open top bus bringing 40 retirement village residents, staff, and family members together. Birmingham Pride weekend is the climax of year-round activity, celebrating LGBTQ+ achievement.
The festival has supported numerous LGBTQ+ community groups, charities and events since 2014, raising funds for much needed services within the community. The theme for the festival was ‘Love has no limits’ celebrating the vibrant tapestry of a diverse community.
The parade made its way through some of Birmingham’s famous landmarks travelling from Centenary Square to New Street and Smallbrook Queensway. A number of popular artists brought the weekend to a rousing close with performances from Clean Bandit and Bananarama.
The event united residents and staff who found a sense of community and camaraderie at the parade.
Resident Susan Briggs commented; “It was my first experience of Birmingham Pride, and it won’t be my last. The party atmosphere was amazing. We were all equal on the bus…just people having fun. Can’t wait for next year’s Pride parade. The sights, the sounds. Wow! Loved the whole experience
Care Manager, David Spittle added; “To see a care provider stand up and be part of my community and say we’ve got you, helps.”
Executive Director of Corporate Resources, Chris Skelton added; “It was a great event and it was really good to see so many from ExtraCare out and supporting it!”
