“I moved to the village in January 2018, the last three years have gone so quickly, I have a lovely apartment and friends and couldn’t be happier.''

Barbara Reeves

New Oscott

Barbara tells us the reason she came to live at New Oscott Village and why she couldn’t be happier

“In May 2013 I had a bad accident, we flew to Tenerife on holiday and on the first night I broke my femur, which is the main bone in the leg. I spent a month in a clinic there and have had five operations on it. I spent about nine months in a wheelchair, then a couple of years on crutches.

“On May 26th 2016, my partner Larry passed away, then someone told me about the gym at the village, so I came to have a look and loved it and it was a way to build up the muscles in my leg.

“I started volunteering in September 2020, I volunteered in the café when it opened and now I take lunch orders on the phone for the restaurant and deliver some to people who are isolating or can’t leave their apartments.

“I love the interaction over the phone and people are so pleased to see you when you deliver their meals.

“My hobbies are knotting and crochet, so I joined a knit and natter group, I am showing four ladies how to crochet, and I’m pleased to say how much they are enjoying it and its and enjoyable way to pass the time.”

“It’s never too late to learn something new.”

Other Stories

Our campaign to do what we can to save the planet and not leave our grandchildren with a legacy of disaster through our irresponsibility has been subtly put forward, and hopefully gives all the feeling of involvement where they play their part.

Shenley Wood Village

When my parents got older, I reduced work hours to part time to support them. I didn’t want to put my children in the same position, being here we don’t have to. Here we have everything we need, it’s the banter and the wonderful sense of community that I love, it really is amazing.
