Earlsdon Park Retirement Village hosted a fashion show in partnership with the Coventry Building Society to raise funds for older people in the local community.
The show was organised by The ExtraCare Charitable Trust a Coventry-based charity, which runs the 262 home community for over 300 local older people. They had help from over 45 volunteers, including staff from ExtraCare and The Coventry Building Society, as well as Earlsdon Park residents.
The total raised was £1,606 and this will be divided between ExtraCare’s three schemes, Willowbrook, Princethorpe and Humber Court, and one retirement village, Earlsdon Park, in the city. It will go towards health and well-being activities for residents to decrease the chances of isolation and loneliness, and to encourage independent living.
This is the second major partnership event between ExtraCare and the Coventry, following an abseil that took place at Earlsdon last November.
ExtraCare’s Trusts and Foundations Fundraiser Catherine Duffield-Smith said: “The fashion show and retail event, hosted by SOS Fashions in Nottingham proved to be a big hit, with staff from both the Coventry and ExtraCare; plus residents from ExtraCare Coventry locations taking to the catwalk to show off some rather stunning outfits from many of our high street stores.
We are delighted to be partnered with the Coventry Building Society for both fundraising and volunteering purposes and sincerely thank the Society for their commitment; working with us to create an altogether different alternative to life in later years, as we currently know it”
Beryl Mander, 88, a resident of Earlsdon Park, who took part in the event said: “It was quite an experience but you can do anything once. I had a great time and I think knowing the audience made me feel more are ease.”

ExtraCare is a registered charity established in 1988 and based in Coventry. Our vision is better lives for older people and our mission is creating sustainable communities that provide homes older people want, lifestyles they can enjoy and care if it’s needed. To deliver our vision and mission we essentially do three things:
* We develop new villages
* We operate villages and schemes
* We support our villages, schemes and our ‘extra-care’ model through fundraising, advocacy and research
Each village or scheme has 5 to 18 social, health and leisure facilities that are accessible to our residents, volunteers and local people representing all age groups living in surrounding communities. Our Charity Shops help fund care and well-being services for older people living at our each of our locations. www.extracare.org.uk
