Open weekend at Earlsdon Park Village

Coventry's older residents are invited to view the first completed homes and meet staff at Earlsdon Park Retirement Village during a community open weekend on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th August.

When the City’s first retirement village opens in summer 2016, it will provide 262 affordable apartments for the over 55s and 18 health and leisure facilities including a café bistro, fitness suite, games room and greenhouse.  Care will also be on offer for those who need support to remain independent.  

Village Commissioning Manager, Lesley Blowers, has already been holding monthly meetings with up to 200 local residents who want to find out more about the emerging Village community. 

She says: “Retirement living for older people is changing and people are looking for more choice with activities, care on hand if they need it and an independent lifestyle. Many older people and their families are confused about the retirement choices available to them and the costs involved. I know it’s a year until we open but I want to explain to people what this Village offers and how it differs from many of the traditional retirement or nursing home options. 

“We’re also encouraging families to drop in because we want to demonstrate that our Village community will welcome visitors and volunteers representing all age groups.”

Earlsdon Park Village will have 262 one and two bedroom apartments, each with their own front door, kitchen, shower room, living room and hallway. Apartments are available for rent, shared ownership and outright purchase.

The opportunity to live at the Village is primarily open to people over the age of 55 who are living in Coventry. Prices for 40% shared ownership one bedroom properties start from £69,980.

A Village Care and Well-being Service will provide personal and domestic care and advice on healthy living, with early diagnosis and GP referral linked to common conditions such as diabetes or abnormal blood pressure.  Dementia support will also be provided through specialist staff.  

During its development, the Village is providing over 200 construction jobs. Around 30 Village staff will be recruited locally to provide care, hospitality, housekeeping and activity services when the Village opens.

The Village is a partnership between The ExtraCare Charitable Trust, Coventry City Council and The Homes and Community Agency.
