Shenley Wood Village in Milton Keynes took ExtraCare’s Olympic Torch to visit boxer Frank Bruno!
ExtraCare’s torch is travelling around all of the Charity’s locations in the run up to the 2016 Olympic Games, and it arrived at Shenley Wood Village last week. As the torch arrives at each location, residents and staff are taking part in a series of sporting and other activities, including taking a photo of the torch with a well-known personality.
Shenley Wood Village Activity Facilitator Leigh West contacted boxer Frank Bruno MBE, who invited her to meet him at his home in Bedfordshire.
She says: “Frank’s house was filled with memorabilia from his time as world champion boxer including a wall of fame with images of Frank meeting icons including Princess Diana, the Queen and Muhammad Ali.
“Frank was pictured with the torch, and also gave a short video message to residents living at Shenley and wished them well. The icing on the cake was the appearance of his green belt where he won the heavyweight title in 1995, defeating Oliver McCall at a packed Wembley Stadium.
“We would all like to thank Frank for his giving his time to share a few memories and show support for a great local charity.
“Pictures of the meeting will be hanging in the Village for residents and visitors to enjoy and look back on in years to come.”
