ExtraCare team help secure new resident over £6,000 in unclaimed benefits.

A soon-to-be resident at our new retirement village in Solihull is now thousands of pounds better off after ExtraCare’s Welfare Benefits Team helped her secure unclaimed entitled benefits to the sum of more than £6,000.

The resident’s finances, income and benefit entitlement, were assessed as part of her application for a one-bed, shared ownership apartment at Solihull Village, which welcome its first residents through the doors in just a few weeks. As a result, ExtraCare were able to assist the individual in claiming an increase in Disability Living Allowance. This increase meant she became entitled to a further means tested benefit and ExtraCare was able to support a further claim of Pension Credits and full Council Tax Benefit.

Having missed out on unclaimed benefits for almost seven years, the resident is also now eligible to claim a free TV licence, NHS dentist treatment, and prescription glasses.

ExtraCare retirement villages are not just about providing new places to live. They’re about giving their residents a new lease of life. We believe that health, age or financial means should be no barrier to an enhanced quality of life. With that in mind we offer a mixture of tenures options, outright purchase, shared ownership, and rental.

As a charity, ExtraCare aims to ensure that living with us is affordable for all, even for those with limited financial means who are moving from a rental property and have only a minimum state pension.
