Eunice and David Giles recently celebrated their Diamond Wedding anniversary with a party at New Oscott Retirement Village where they have lived for five years.
Eunice said: "We had a lovely party which was attended by residents, staff, friends and relatives including our son and daughter and our three grandchildren."
Before moving in the Village they lived in a three bedroom house in Erdington. Eunice attended most of the meetings before the Village opened, and said that she convinced David to move in.
"When I took him to see an apartment, he loved it and we've both enjoyed living here ever since," she said.
The couple take part in most of the activities and, although his eyesight is not good, David can read with the help of a magnifier and is also thinking of joining the gym.
Before they retired, David was a machinist in a factory and Eunice worked in an office. They married at All Saints Church, Erdington.
Among their many anniversary cards was one from the Queen.
