On the advice of expert gardener Howard Drury, ExtraCare's Willowbrook in Canley, Coventry, has completed its own sensory garden.
Activities Co-ordinator Sharon Berry, who took on the project, spent twelve months organising the finance required, and the garden has now been completed.
Student volunteers from Warwick University helped create a circular raised bed, which is easy for residents to maintain, containing a selection of plants designed to stimulate the senses of touch, sight and scent, as well as herbs which local primary school children helped to plant.
Attending the opening were a delegation from Coventry City Council, including Deputy Lord Mayor Michael Hammon and ExtraCare’s Chief Executive, Nick Abbey.
Nick said: “The new garden is a brilliant addition to Willowbrook; so much good work has been done there in the last couple of years to make the whole of the gardens a better place for residents to spend some time, and this rounds it off superbly. A great effort from the team has created a real oasis.”
