ExtraCare has signed the Armed Forces Covenant and is committed to be an armed-forces friendly organisation and to ensure no member of the Armed Forces Community faces disadvantage when seeking to join our organisation as a member of staff, resident, volunteer or in any other capacity. We have entered and are awaiting confirmation of the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme Bronze Award.
Longbridge Retirement Village has been shortlisted as a finalist for Best Older People’s Housing Development at this year’s Inside Housing Development Awards. The awards celebrate the very best in residential development across the UK. The category specifically recognises homes for older people that are desirable and are well designed to meet current and future care and support needs.
ExtraCare was awarded the Outstanding Development Programme of the Year at the 2017 UK Housing Awards. This recognises the work of ExtraCare across the charity’s five villages in Birmingham, as well as charity wide, in providing care, housing and inspirational lifestyles for older people. Factors considered in the award submission were the creation of 1,152 new homes for older people in Birmingham, ExtraCare’s resident involvement through their volunteering programme and engagement with the external community.
Several of ExtraCare’s schemes were once again recognised for their excellence at the 2017 EAC Awards. Three schemes received Gold in their categories and a further seven received Highly Commended awards. The schemes were chosen out of a total of 1,180 schemes across the country that were nominated.
ExtraCare’s Bournville Gardens Village in Birmingham won Older People’s Development of the Year at Inside Housing’s 2016 Top 60 Awards. This award recognises the work of ExtraCare in changing the lives of older people through our integration of housing, care and lifestyles.
ExtraCare’s Communications Team won Communications Team of the Year at the 2016 Housing Heroes Awards. They received this accolade for their hard work on promoting the opening of Bournville Gardens, which included creating a database of 2,290 households who were interested in finding out more about the village, which then lead to 95% reservations on apartments and a 12 month waiting list. The team persuaded ITV’s ‘Tonight’ programme to select village resident Margery Crampton to illustrate its pre-Christmas national feature on tackling isolation, seen by 1.9 million people.
ExtraCare won the Outstanding Approach to Innovation Award in the 2016 UK Housing Awards. This represents work across the Charity, including health and well-being, care, research, resident involvement and volunteering, commissioning, marketing and PR, recruitment and training. The standout work mentioned was ExtraCare's Enriched Opportunities Programme, which supports residents with dementia. Read more about the UKHA here!
Four ExtraCare Charitable Trust locations were honoured at the Elderly Accommodation Counsel's (EAC) National Housing for Older People Awards. More than 4,000 residents from 360 specialist housing schemes helped choose the award winners in a unique process overseen by the national housing charity for older people, The EAC.
ExtraCare’s Healthy Lifestyle Team won the Healthcare Outcomes award at the 2015 LaingBuisson Awards.
The awards looked for evidence of high standards of performance, strong leadership and support and effective and innovative delivery of services.
ExtraCare's Well-being Service was named Innovation of the Year at the Chartered Institute Of Housing Midlands Awards in October 2015.
The award recognised the Well-being Service was innovative and demonstrated a successful service outcome.
Our Well-being Service supports our residents to regain as much independence as possible and to be proactive in managing their own health. The Service has been recognised as best practice with the following awards:

Our Enriched Opportunities Programme© supports residents with dementia and dementia-related conditions. It is a pioneering joint research project between ExtraCare and the University of Bradford and has resulted in a programme of support that is now being rolled out across all ExtraCare Schemes and Villages.

IiP is a recognition of good practice in how an organisation engages with, enables, develops and supports its people (staff and volunteers) to drive performance forward.
