Mabel has lived at the ExtraCare scheme for eight years and is a
popular resident who is regularly praised for how well she is doing
and how young she looks for her age. She said: "I'm not doing too
badly yet. I hope I have a couple more."
Earlier Mabel had enjoyed a pub lunch with her family and, after
drinking half a pint and two glasses of champagne, arrived a little
late for her party at the scheme. She said: "I'm very grateful to
the staff for providing the cake - and I'm going to continue
drinking late in the day having started early!"
She also enjoyed the singing of entertainer Steve Knight.
Although she was born in Bournemouth and worked in service there
for some years after leaving school at 14, Mabel has lived in
Wolverhampton for most of her life. She did, however, help at
a hotel that her mother - who lived to 100 - ran in Wales at one
stage.
Mabel's late husband Geoff served in the Army and during the
Second World War was one of the Desert Rats in North Africa.
She has one daughter, Pat Hanson - who helped Mabel blow out the
candles on her cake - two grandsons, a granddaughter and three
great-grandchildren.
