The Eggheads group was formed ten years ago, two months after
the official opening of the retirement village in Warrington, and
has met once a week ever since, on Tuesdays between 2 and 4pm.
They have been so successful that they've even diversified:
they're now also a debating society.
Question master Pat Eyres organises the quizzes but they have an
open format, and Village Manager Judith Lathey said that the group
members are very welcoming to new members.
"Residents and friends of the Village are all welcome," she
explained. "It's non-competitive, and everyone can answer the
questions. It's pure grey cell stimulation. Keep it up,
ladies!"
Debates in the group are also all open, and, in the words of one
group member, "Resolve absolutely nothing!"
