The ExtraHope fundraising group, formed of residents living at
Lovat Fields Village in Willen and future residents of Shenley Wood
Village, due to open in 2012, presented a cheque to ExtraCare's
Chief Executive, Nick Abbey, this week.
He said that the donation was tremendously appreciated. "Thanks
to the ExtraHope group for this huge amount of money. It shows that
if you all aim high together, the results will surprise us
all!"
The group was founded to raise money for Shenley Wood's Village
centre, the heart of the Village where people can meet and
socialise with their friends and neighbours, as well as access a
range of facilities including a Well-being Advisor, fitness suite
and gym, greenhouse, IT suite and library.
Shenley Wood Village Manager, Martyn Dawes, said he is thrilled
by the friendships that have developed between residents of the two
Milton Keynes Villages. "It's all so heartening to see the
community of Shenley Wood Village coming together."
In addition to presenting a cheque for £14,522 for Shenley Wood
Village, ExtraHope gave £1,000 to Lovat Fields Village in
recognition of the unselfish work staff and residents at
ExtraCare's first Milton Keynes Village have done for their new
neighbours. This was received by Village Manager Steve Neal.
ExtraHope's Brian Hobbs is due to move in to Shenley Wood
Village in February. He said: "We have been led and encouraged by
ExtraCare all the way. It's been an amazing time of building the
new community spirit by involving ourselves - what a great
start!
"Thank you to ExtraCare for our new lease of life and the
opportunity to make new friends. It's all so very exciting! Have a
great Christmas and we look forward to seeing you all in the New
Year."
