A Christmas Party for Lovat Fields’ Friends

9th December, 2011

The Friends of Lovat Fields Village celebrated Christmas this week with an exciting party and entertainment.

Village Activity Facilitator Jo Wilson, Manager Steve Neal and Well-being Advisor Margaret Mason all took part in the festivities, which included carol singing, food and drink, and even some performances from Lovat Fields residents and friends!

One of the entertainers was Village Friend Del Puddefoot, who sang. "I'd never performed at all until I joined Friends, but I really enjoy it," he said. "I originally just started coming to the gym three times a week a couple of years ago, but then I got into the Friends meetings as well.

"Now I do Days Gone By performances once a month in the restaurant here with a friend, as well as visiting sheltered accommodation to give performances there as well. I've done them at a couple of other ExtraCare Villages too, St Crispin and Shenley Wood."

Jo, who organised the event, was supported by a group of hard-working helpers, including several Village residents and friends. She and Del led everyone in a few well-known Christmas songs, including Hark the Herald Angels Sing, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and Jingle Bells.

Village Manager Steve Neal said the year had been exciting, in part due to the fact that Lovat Fields is soon to get some new neighbours: ExtraCare's second Milton Keynes retirement village, Shenley Wood. He introduced the new Village's manager, Martyn Dawes.

"We've also had lots of exciting things happen in the last twelve months," he told the assembled party-goers. "I wanted to take the opportunity to thank you for the support you've given us over the last year and also wish you a very merry Christmas."

Two of the Village's Friends who attended were Maureen and John Mason, who have been part of the group since it started. "We both volunteer in the gym as well," said Maureen. "It's not dull or boring here at all, it's like a madhouse!"

John added: "It's like a holiday camp. I've heard new residents say that when they move in, that there's always something going on, just like a holiday camp or a cruise ship."
