Duke of Gloucester officially opens Gloucester Retirement Village

His Royal Highness The Duke of Gloucester officially opened Gloucester's first retirement village on Wednesday 20th April 2010, visiting the home of eldest resident, Mrs Sue Waterhouse, who is 100 years old.

Before unveiling a plaque to mark the occasion, the Duke was taken on a tour of the £29m flagship village by Manager, John Cullen, who presented him to Mrs Waterhouse and other Village residents. During the visit, the Duke saw some of the 18 leisure and health facilities and heard about residents' achievements during the Village's opening year.

The Village, which has 166 homes, has been developed by Gloucester City Council, Gloucetershire County Council, Rooftop Housing Group, The Homes and Communities Agency and The ExtraCare Charitable Trust.
