17th February, 2012

Residents, social club members and staff at Bushfield Court retirement scheme in Bilston, Wolverhampton, have been preparing for spring by potting plants this week.

Garden Captain Jean Britton, who organised the potting, said they were selling the plants off each day to residents, friends, visitors and staff. "It's a good time of year to do it because people can buy them and keep them for Mother's Day," she said.

Social Club member Michael, who comes to Bushfield three days a week, was hard at work potting the plants. He has been a keen gardener for a long time and used to have two allotments. "I've been gardening for ages - I can't use my hand any more but I still do it," he said.

Peter, who is also a member of the social club, said that all the baskets of flowers looked really good.

Jean said it was lovely to see Michael and Peter enjoying themselves so much. "You can just see the smiles on their faces and it's great. I've worked at Bushfield since it opened and it's an honour to still be the Garden Captain."
