Free Zumba Classes at Berryhill Village

9th February, 2012

Residents at Berryhill Retirement Village in Stoke-on-Trent have enjoyed a free zumba session from a local tutor.

Retired Berryhill residents enjoy a free zumba class.

The activity was arranged through Stoke-on-Trent City Council to raise the profile of the London 2012 Games in the area and get people active.

The session was adapted to include residents of all abilities at the retirement village, and several people even sat down for the whole time but were still able to take part.

Village Activity Facilitator Ben Warrender said that the activity was very well-attended. "Even staff got involved!" he said. "Our residents have asked for this activity more often - but next on our list to try is salsa dancing!"

The salsa dancing sessions will also be arranged through Stoke-on-Trent City Council.

Residents throughout ExtraCare's retirement villages and schemes are getting active in the run-up to the Olympic Games as part of The ExtraCare Challenge, which is encouraging each scheme and village to "travel" 1,000 miles through running, rowing, archery - or anything else they can think of.

The Challenge will end with a massive 715 mile torch relay, involving all 30 of ExtraCare's schemes and villages.

It has been granted the Inspire mark by the London 2012 Inspire programme, which recognises innovative and exceptional projects that are directly inspired by the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
