Brunswick Resident’s Fundraising Success

7th February, 2012

Brunswick Gardens Village resident Betty Sharpe has raised over £1,000 for a Sheffield children's hospice as part of her 80th birthday celebrations.

Betty, who lives at the retirement village in Woodhouse, Sheffield, invited friends, family and other residents to her party at the village restaurant last month, asking for their "presence, not presents!"

She suggested that, instead, guests give a donation to Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice, and together they managed to raise £520.

Her son, David Waller, works for Aviva, who this year are also supporting Bluebell Wood. Any Aviva employee who takes part in fundraising efforts can claim a further £250 for the charity. David and his colleague Janice Wright both arranged the party and brought the total donation to £1,200.

Gail Parkin, Bluebell Wood's fundraiser for the Sheffield area, accepted a cheque for the first £500.
