More than 90 residents, staff and friends of the Village in Woodhouse took part in the event held at Rother Valley Country Park and according to Village Activities Coordinator Suzie Simons everyone had worked hard to present a unique decorated brolly for the occasion.

Many of the entrants walked three miles through the park with their brollies held high - those with mobility issues took part in wheelchairs or managed a shorter walk.

According to Irene, who has lived at Brunswick Gardens with her husband Andrew for close on two years, her brolly was decorated with artificial flowers and fruit. "I'd been planning it for some time but it didn't take me too long to put it together," she says.  Runners up were residents Carol Pantin and Betty Howarth.

As well as enjoying the parasol parade, the entrants and other visitors including residents and staff from ExtraCare's Seagrave Court scheme in Nottingham, who held their own competition, were also entertained in a marquee by an African drum band.

Residents from all the ExtraCare's 11 villages and 18 smaller schemes across the Midlands and the North West are taking part in parasol parades. The events are among the many activities the Charity holds annually to provide an active and sociable environment for it residents.
