In a Nutshell
Dame Joan Bakewell visited the Village just after it opened as part of a BBC Panorama report on the future of care. The big question was - who pays? New Oscott is featured ten minutes into the programme as a potential national solution for older people seeking affordable housing with care - watch the programme here.

And New Oscott Village featured recently on the BBC Radio's national 'Living Longer' series - listen here.

Angela Warrender (Village Manager): "On Fridays we hold a weekly village market which is very popular. We have our own choir, gardening and newsletter groups and our Happy Hounds weekly dog training sessions have proved very popular - even for residents who don't have pets! We're proud of our strong links with the community and a lot of grandchildren, other family members, volunteers and external gym members come in on a regular basis.

"Health is on the up too. Our well-being advisor and gym instructor work closely together - we've seen a 15.2% overall improvement in residents' health scores when measured against typical criteria including sleep, fitness, blood pressure, cholesterol levels and spiritual well-being. All in all it's been a great first year!"

Bella Shevlin (resident): "I came to the Village six months ago in a wheelchair from hospital, aged 97, alone and unable to use my legs. Now I'm in the gym four times a week and with the help of the staff and new friends walking again. You don't expect to get a new life at my age - but in this place I have."
