Housing-Related Support

The ExtraCare Charitable Trust has developed a Housing-Related Support Service for older people over the age of 55 living in their own homes within the Birmingham area. The service aims to enable older people to live good quality independent lives. This programme is funded by Birmingham City Council.

The outreach service has been designed to:

  • Assess housing-related support needs.
  • Help members manage their money and claim financial support.
  • Help members with safety and security around their home.
  • Enable client involvement and empowerment.
  • Help members stay healthy by accessing appropriate healthcare.
  • Prevent social isolation by helping people to access local activities and services in the community.

The service includes a home-based assessment of suitability of housing, safety and security issues, need for aids and adaptations, social isolation and travel training. Other services are offered, including a welfare benefits check, a Well-being health check, access to a range of activities within ExtraCare's villages, opportunities to volunteer, and sign-posting to other services to meet cultural, health and advocacy needs.
